Why not just use ChatGPT? It is a few hundred rand a user.
Because of what you would have to put into it. A public AI tool is cheap, capable, and hosted by someone else — which means every matter file you paste into it leaves your firm and lands with an offshore processor. That is the one thing a law firm cannot casually do. MyriadPulse Legal is the other trade: you pay more, and nothing leaves the building. You also get assistants already configured for legal work, a managed system with backups and support, and no per-user cloud accounts to police.
Could we not just rent a GPU server and run this ourselves?
You could. An unmanaged 24GB GPU server in South Africa runs about R12,500 a month — nearly double the 24-month path here, it never becomes your property, and it needs someone in your firm who can administer it. What you are buying from us is the setup, the legal workflows, the backups and the person who answers when it stops working.
Is our client data safe? What about POPIA?
Your documents stay on the appliance in your office. The firm remains the responsible party under POPIA and MyriadPulse acts as operator, under written operator terms that include a 72-hour breach notification commitment and a disclosure of what usage is logged. How fast is it?
Fast enough to use in a working day, not fast enough to feel like a web search. Real questions over real documents typically take from about ten seconds to a couple of minutes depending on how much it has to read. It is a research and drafting tool you set going and come back to, not an instant-answer box.
Most of our files are scanned. Will it read those?
Yes. Image-only and scanned PDFs are put through OCR before they are loaded, so a photographed bundle becomes as searchable as a typed one.
Can our secretary use it, or does it need an IT person?
It needs a browser. Staff open an office web address, pick an assistant and a matter, and type. There is nothing to install on anyone’s computer and no account with an outside service. Setup includes a 30-minute training session and a week-one follow-up.
Does it work when the internet is down?
Yes. The model and the documents are both on the appliance in your office, so it keeps answering on your local network with no connection at all. Remote support obviously needs a connection, but the product does not.
Who owns the box?
You do, eventually — or immediately, if you buy it. On the 12, 18 or 24-month paths the appliance belongs to MyriadPulse during the term and becomes yours at the end, and you can take ownership earlier by paying out the remaining appliance portion. Or pay R25,000 on day one and it is yours from the start. While it is ours, your firm insures it at R25,000 replacement value.
What happens when it breaks?
Honestly: hardware failure is handled under support on a best-effort basis, and data recovery comes from the appliance’s own daily encrypted backup. We do not promise a replacement appliance or a guaranteed restore time. MyriadPulse is a small operation and we would rather tell you that up front than write a promise we cannot keep at three in the morning. Off-device backup is on the roadmap and will be offered when it is real.
How many people can use it?
It is built for firms of up to about five people, with one or two using it at a time. That is a capacity limit, not a licence limit — there is no per-seat pricing. If your firm is bigger than that we will say so, and quote a Managed Business appliance instead of selling you something that will disappoint you.
Will it make things up?
It is built hard against that, and it is still a language model. Assistants answer from the documents in the open matter and are configured to say when something is not in the record rather than fill the gap. Chronologies do not invent dates. The Source Reviewer exists specifically to test a draft against its sources. None of that removes the requirement that a qualified member of the firm reviews every output before relying on it.
Does it give legal advice?
No. MyriadPulse Legal is a drafting and research aid. It does not provide legal advice and it is not a substitute for a lawyer’s judgement.
What if we want to stop?
There is a 14-day guarantee at the start: if the agreed pilot workflows cannot be demonstrated on the approved test documents within 14 days of installation, you can cancel and the first monthly fee is refunded. After that there is a six-month minimum, then it runs month to month. Once you own the appliance it keeps working if you stop paying — you lose updates, new capabilities and reseeds, not the machine.
